MFS Moorestown Friends School

Strategic Plan - Technology Goals

Technology in the school is intended, ultimately, to enhance student learning and administrative efficiency.   Despite significant investments of money and personnel over the past ten years, the school has not been able to fully maximize all the advantages that technology resources can provide.

Plan Goal #9

Ensure that our students are proficient users of technology and that faculty members utilize instructional technology.

Rationale

Technology can be a powerful learning tool for students and a very effective instructional tool for teachers.   The possibilities for integrating technology into the academic program are nearly endless, and both students and teachers need knowledgeable assistance and reliable systems in this area.   Also, to be well prepared for college, students need to have a facility with technology and an ability to use it creatively and effectively.

Strategies

•  Integrate technology education into classes to exceed the national technology standards (with additional MFS requirements).

•  Increase/improve stand-alone course offerings for students who want to go further in certain areas.

•  Create a new, up-to-date technology plan.

•  Acquire a mobile language lab for the Foreign Language Department.

•  Evaluate the need for in-class presentation technology (consider pilot plans for heavy tech users).

•  Implement the use of curriculum mapping software to provide teachers with an easy-to-use template for displaying the scope and sequence of the curriculum.

Plan Goal #10

Enhance the efficacy of staff and faculty by improving the administrative use of all technology.

Rationale

Administrative uses of technology — from accounting to record-keeping to email communications - greatly enhance efficiency.   Additional efforts, however, are required to ensure full utilization of this resource.

Strategies

•  Evaluate current software and decide to update or replace current software (e.g. combine/augment databases and services, increase faculty access to information).

•  Increase technical support for staff and faculty training.

•  Use network/technology to communicate effectively with internal and external groups.

•  Require teachers and departments to maintain informative websites for classes.

•  Make a conscious effort to reduce the use of paper and other resources by encouraging people to provide information digitally.
