Haddonfield resident and MFS senior Evan Plys has been named an Under Armour Preseason Baseball All-American and will participate in the Under Armour Preseason All-American Tournament January 12-14 at the Kino Sports Complex, spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The event is organized by the Baseball Factory and Team One Baseball, two professional baseball scouting organizations. He will be the starting third baseman for the Mid-Atlantic team in the 12-team, 200-player wood bat tournament.
“This is a great opportunity for Evan,” said MFS baseball coach Ron Obermeier. “It’s exciting to have such a high-visibility prospect at MFS. He is one of our team leaders and a great example to the other guys.”
Baseball Factory and Team One Baseball host over 110 events across the nation to locate the top players for the Preseason All-American Tournament. Professional scouts from Baseball Factory and Team One Baseball select players based on outstanding performance at one of these events. Baseball Factory and Team One Baseball joined forces in 2004 and together they have scouted over 5,000 high school baseball players from across the country this year.
In addition to his baseball involvement, Plys is very involved with the UrbanPromise school and ministry in Camden. For the past three summers, he has organized and run a free one-week clinic for disadvantaged Camden youth, ages 9-13, at the Haddonfield Little League Complex.
