MOORESTOWN FRIENDS SCHOOL STUDENT’S AWARD-WINNING ESSAY
EARNS HER A TRIP TO SPACE CAMP

Victoria Geyer, a fifth grade student at Moorestown Friends School, and Cinnaminson resident, won Lockheed Martin’s annual Space Day Essay Contest. Geyer’s essay, “50 Years in Space and Still Having a Blast,” won her a three-day parent/child Space Camp adventure package at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, in Huntsville, AL, which includes camp tuition, airfare and transportation.

On June 1, in front of the entire MFS fifth grade which included the unknowing prize winner, Lockheed Martin Director of Public Affairs and Communications Kenneth Ross read Victoria’s essay and presented her with an award plaque and the news of her prize. Her parents were also in attendance.

Students from across Burlington County participated in the Space Day Essay Contest, which asked participants to use their imaginations and describe what it would be like to travel into the solar system.  Geyer’s essay was deemed the best submission by a judging panel of Lockheed Martin employees.

Lockheed Martin sponsors the annual essay contest as part of a series of activities culminating in Space Day (the first Friday of May), a nationwide date established to celebrate the achievements, benefits and opportunities of space exploration.
