A team of Moorestown Friends School (MFS) fifth graders placed second in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood regional competition of the New Jersey Science Olympiad. The elementary-level (grades 4-6) competition was held on May 2 at Park Middle School, and eight teams participated. This was one of two New Jersey elementary-level competitions. The other was held March 1 in West Amwell.
The MFS team finished first in five events: Bottle Music, Barge Building, Egg Drop, Write It/Do It (K’nex), and Chemistry.
The members of the MFS team were: Emma Cain of Moorestown, Aerin Cox of Moorestown, Lauren Crudele of Voorhees, Kim Gaiser of Mount Laurel, John Leibundgut of Marlton, Dan McGinn of Voorhees, Sam Madamba of Mount Laurel, Robby Sheffield of Mount Laurel, Joe Slawek of Moorestown, Morgan Sloan of Moorestown, Ward Taggart of Moorestown, and Gina Tamburri of Cinnaminson.
Coaches of the team were fifth grade teacher Kathy Cook and Middle/Upper School science teacher Chuck Blatherwick.
